Fashion Bridal Portraiture | Vanessa

Today Daniel & Vanessa pledged their love & commitment to one another during their wedding ceremony at the Brier Creek Country Club.  Leading up to their ceremony we’ve worked together on both an engagement session at Duke Gardens, as well as Vanessa’s fashion bridal portrait session which took place here at our studio.  I wanted to do something different for her session and Vanessa was amiable.  Danny’s sister Rebecca flew in from New York and assisted Vanessa during session.  We had so much fun!  I may even post some of the “out takes”.  But today, I present Vanessa’s fashion bridal portrait session.

Day After Session with Jonathan + Shanda

You may recall the images from Shanda’s bridal portraits at UNC Chapel Hill.  Well, they asked if I’d photograph their day after session which I welcomed.  I heart day after sessions by the way.  Shanda, this one is for you and Jonathan.  I call it “Coming Together”.

Day After Session with Jonathan + ShandaDay After Session by Raleigh Wedding Photographer

If you’re not familiar with ‘day after sessions’, then you are not alone.  These are portrait sessions offered by In His Image Photography that provide amazing portraiture to celebrate and commemorate your wedding.  As the name implies, these portrait sessions often take place the day after the wedding, when the bride and groom are glowing and the demands of the wedding day have been fulfilled.  It truly is an awesome time as the newlyweds enjoy their first portrait session together as husband and wife.

If this appeals to you and you’d like to talk with us about arranging your own day after session, click here to contact us and we’ll help you commemorate your own special day.

Jennifer’s Bridal Portrait

Today is another day of rejoicing!  Tobias & Jennifer are now husband & wife, and that is something beautiful.  Speaking of beautiful, Jennifer’s bridal portrait was on display during their wedding reception today.  I photographed her bridal here at the studio, which I have to add, is an awesome setup for bridal portraits.  Jennifer chose a 24 x 36 inch gallery wrapped canvas for her portrait.  Gallery wrapped canvas is a great choice for the modern look sought by today’s brides.

Bridal portraiture is one of my favorite portrait genres.  If you’d like to talk with us about having your own bridal session, or if you’re looking for a wedding photographer in Raleigh (yes, we do travel), click here to connect with us.  If you think Jennifer bridal portrait is simply stunning, leave a comment and wish them all the best in their new life together.

Bridal Portrait Session at UNC Chapel Hill: Shanda

I am very passionate about photography, professional wedding photography specifically, and the two main photography tangents that spring from it: engagement sessions and bridal sessions.  This summer I am focused solely as an wedding photographer.  Our studio space serves more so as a gallery for our art, a place where prospective clients come to see our prints first hand, and current clients come to view their images on our color accurate projected displays.  Occasionally we shoot a bridal session or engagement session in the studio, and as the summer days and their heat draw near, the indoor sessions, particularly the indoor bridal photography will likely increase.  But for now,  we are doing quite a bit of “on location” work throughout the Raleigh,  Durham and Chapel Hill areas.  And, I love it!  My clients love it too.  Read on…

For many brides, the dawning of her wedding gown invokes childhood memories and current ideals of beauty, romance, and even royalty.  As a bridal photographer, it is this emotion: the what’s happening on the inside and being displayed on the outside, that I seek to capture.  A couple months ago, I had the pleasure of photographing Shanda in advance of her wedding which took place this past week (June 5th).  Being an UNC Chapel Hill alum, Shanda chose to have her bridal portraits done on the campus, and included traditional areas such as The Old Well,  the Morehead Planetarium, and the Davie Poplar tree.  Now,  I’ve mention previously, I haven’t shared bridal portraiture much in the past because of the delay between when the bridal portraits are captured and when the bride is seen by her groom on their wedding day.  Yet with a conscious effort, I’m now sharing this part of our art with you.

By the time I was commissioned to make a portrait for Shanda’s wedding, her family had already decided on a wedding photographer.  This isn’t at all unusual, but after working with a client in advance of their wedding day, I often feel the desire to attend their wedding as a guest or family friend would.  It’s like a bond is made.  However, like most Saturdays throughout the remainder of this summer, I am fully booked and scheduled with an equally amazing bride and groom.  But wasn’t the last of it.  Shanda enjoyed her bridal session and her bridal images so much that Jonathan + Shanda also commissioned me to document a “Day After Session” for them this past Sunday!  I was super stoked to have this time with them.  It confirmed that Shanda was comfortable in front of my camera, and trusted these precious moments to me to preserve for their visual recollection and to share with their love ones.  Early on during the day after session, I inquired about their ceremony and Shanda shared her father’s reaction to seeing her in her gown just before the wedding in her bridal chamber.  He was so caught up in emotion, seeing his daughter, so beautiful, on her wedding day.  And who could blame him, Shanda is a stunning bride.  See for yourself …

If you read the post above, seeing the images that followed let you know some of what we do during our bridal portrait sessions.  But you might be wondering what a day after session is.  I may share some of Jonathan + Shanda’s images with you later, but for IHI Photography, a day after session is the newly weds first portrait session together.  The couple is fresh off the start of their marriage journey together, basking in the glow of the love they’ve just professed together.  It’s away from the rigors of the wedding day and the enjoyment their in which is rightly to be had by the couple, their family, friends and guest.  Such a session allows our clients to spend their reception time with their love ones, knowing they can meet with us “the day after” to capture the images they so desire.

If you are intrigued by what you’ve seen or read, and you or a friend is looking for a professional wedding photographer in Raleigh, Durham or Chapel Hill, please contact us to visit our studio and share our passion.  For prospective clients who aren’t local to the Raleigh area, or are marrying outside of the capital area, know that we are experienced destination wedding photographers who can travel to your wedding location and provide you the service you desire.

Engagement Photography at Duke Gardens: Tobias + Jennifer

I luv engagement sessions.  I do.  Usually they give me an opportunity work with a new couple for the first time.  I highly encourage my clients to have an engagement photography session for several reasons:

  1. It’s often the only professional photography of the couple before their wedding day and provides for images options for wedding day slide shows, save-the-date cards, photo guest books, thank you cards as well as that casual images of just the two of you enjoying being just the two of you!
  2. The second reason, I get to work with the couple in advance of their wedding day: learning each others personalities, getting to know how comfortable they are (become) in front of my lens, and by the end of the session taking those things they shared with me into their wedding day to better photograph who they are, together.
  3. Did I mention how much I enjoy being an engagement photographer?  I digress.

Due to scheduling, I often photograph two couples at the same location on the same day, one right after the other.  Yet, I make it a point for each session to be just as unique as the clients themselves.  Enter Tobias + Jennifer.  Now to be forthright, this wasn’t my first time  working with Jennifer, but her bridal images are under wraps until their wedding day, June 26th!  These two are an awesome couple: saved, intelligent, playful, and in love.  We had a great time at Duke Gardens despite the breaks for rain showers.

Duke Gardens Engagement Session: Aaron & Tiffany

So in love: this is Aaron and Tiffany.  When I received the call from Tiffany sharing the news that she is now engaged and looking for a Raleigh wedding photographer, I had a quick reflective moment.  See, I met Tiffany and her family shortly after I returned to Raleigh, NC in 2002.  Her dad serves as the Minister of Music at URCOGIC, the same church were I met my beautiful wife!  I have so many memories from fellowshipping there.  But it’s been a couple years since we moved to Providence Baptist Church, so hearing from Tiffany was almost like reuniting with family after many years.

Aaron and Tiffany agreed to meet me at Duke Gardens for their engagement session.  Neither had seen this venue prior to the session, but were very pleased with the beauty of this botanical garden.  I love it when clients are comfortable being themselves in front of my lens.  Tiffany was so complimentary after completing their session.  It’s so important to enjoy yourself during your session!  See their images to see why.

In His Image Photography is approved to photograph at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens and listed on their recommended photographers list.  If you’re interested in one of our sessions, or looking for a professional wedding photographer for this venue, we’d love to hear from you.

Beach Front Engagement Session: Cameron + Jenille

It was January when Jenille and I started planning for her engagement session.  I was hoping to do some new things this year and we are definitely off to a great start.  Cameron and Jenille are having a waterfront wedding and wanted to follow that theme in their beach front engagement session.  I loved the idea, “Let’s go to the beach!”  We settled on Falls Lake in Durham NC, a place I had never been.  I like it already.  After the session, I asked Jenille to share how she  and Cameron met:

“We met while serving in ministry at the best church this side of Heaven:-), No Greater Love Christian Church in Durham, NC.  Cameron serves as the Minister of Music and teaches Men’s Bible Study, while I work as the Pastor’s Armor Bearer and head of the Women’s Ministry.  Though we had been worshiping together for over 7 years, our paths did not cross until I was planning Vacation Bible School one year and wanted to to play the game “Name that Tune.”  I needed Cameron’s help to pull it off.  When we met to organize the game we discovered that we had a lot in common and really hit it off.  About a week later the NGLCC Church Family went on a church trip to visit Lake Junaluska in Asheville, NC. It was on this trip that Cameron and I spent time really getting to know each other and began to fall in love.  And the rest as they say is history!”

I present a preview from Cameron and Jenille’s beach front engagement session at Falls Lake in Durham, NC.

Urban Bridal Portrait Session: Sharron Williams

Bridal sessions are one of my favorite types of portrait photography.  Whether photographed in studio or on location, bridal sessions have the potential to be very exciting & artistic.  Although I’ve trained for traditional portrait lighting & posing, I heart the fashion influence of today’s modern bridal sessions.  Adding fashion to the modern photo-jounalistic photography style is a natural offshoot of my style of wedding photography: portrait journalism.  Having a client who both wants this style of imagery and is comfortable having fun in front of my lens, provides for a winning combination as seen here with Sharron’s wedding bridal session.  Will & Sharron were recently highlighted here for their engagement session we held in Raleigh a few months ago.  Sharron enjoyed that session so much that she scrapped the original bridal session plans (they were nice too) and opted to continue the urban theme for her bridal session.

Will & Sharron are wedding this weekend.  I’m honored to have been chosen as their wedding photographer.  I rarely (insert ‘almost never’) post images from bridal sessions because they are usually held a month or two before the wedding day, and aren’t displayed until the wedding day.  This time, I’m delivering this post on their wedding day, just after the ceremony, as one of my gifts to the bride and groom.  I present to you, William’s bride, Sharron.

If this style of photography appeals to you, I’d like to hear from you.  Whether you’re looking for a wedding photographer in Raleigh, or marrying in St. Augustine, FL, we are able to provide you the detail, quality, and moments you’ll cherish in your wedding photographs for a lifetime.

Kashta & Candita: Brier Creek Country Club

Somehow most of us manage to go about our days without giving thought that there are wars going on, somewhere.  This reality hasn’t been absent of Kashta & Candita.  You see, these two are soldiers.  Army strong!  For them, the worldwide reality impacts every part of their life, including there wedding planning and wedding day.  I met  Kashta about a year ago while he was searching for a wedding photographer in Raleigh.  How often do you meet the groom during wedding photography consultations, without the bride to be?  Never.  But this was different because Candita was oversees, holding it down!  It wasn’t until their engagement session that I finally met Candita, and then I realized what Kashta was waiting for: His bride, to come back home.  Only Candita had to return overseas again before their wedding day would arrive.  But here it is.  There’s no more wait.

Kashta & Candita chose Brier Creek Country Club for their wedding and reception.  They found this beautiful venue with the help of their wedding planner, Tamera Davis of Cherished Moments Event Planning.  Every wedding I photograph is an honor, but not many have this story.  To be selected as Kashta’s wedding photographer, knowing the circumstances, somehow elevates the honor.  So without further delay, I present to you Kashta & Candita’s wedding photographs.

Mark & Nicole: The Sutherland, Wake Forest NC

Leading into the month of March, Nicole was already nervous.  The almanac called for rain.  But would you know that a parting of the waters was soon to take place.  Just a few days before their ceremony the report changed, calling for rain the day before and the day after, but zero percent chance the day of!  And what a beautiful day it was.  Just as radiant as the bride.

I met with both Mark Davis and Nicole Campbell at our studio last October, a visit prompted from an earlier bridal show.  OK, Mark actually attended the second meeting, but he came prepared!  Nicole brought Adrienne Wilson Barnes of Beyond Imagination Wedding & Event Planning, Inc. on board as her planner and was well underway with the details of her wedding day.  You have to love a client who knows what they want, and Nicole is definitely that client.  Mark, the laid back yet supportive fiancee surprised me: we’re both North Carolina State Alums! Yes Carolina fans, that Mark Davis, from ’92.  He was shooting three’s like layups!  OK, I digress :)

Mark & Nicole decided on the Sutherland in Wake Forest, NC for their ceremony & reception location.  When you peel off HWY 1 into this secluded estate, you are taken back in time to old southern North Carolina.  The place is beautiful, complete with the Settler’s House to keep the groom & party secluded from the bride & party.  Nicole also chose Chef Vaughn who I highly recommend.  The food was delicious!  Although I didn’t get a chance to meet the baker, I did make it a point to not only take the obligatory images of the cake, but I also made it a point to officially taste it in preparation for my blog post.  Hey, I have a voice :)  And tasting is believing.  I’ve got scripture to back me up!

Calvin & Kimberly: Watts Chapel, Raleigh NC

I am truly blessed to have a diverse client base.  I have clients who match today’s Modern Bride magazine, desiring bridal sessions that resemble fashion shoots.  I also have clients who have no interest in such a session, preferring something more mellow or reflective of their unique personality.  The later was Calvin & Kimberly who wedded at Watts Chapel in Raleigh, NC.  It’s within this diversity that helps make wedding photography unique and special.  Don’t get me wrong, Kimberly’s is full of passion: a die hard North Carolina Chapel Hill fan, and proved her preference by wearing a UNC charm necklace on her wedding day.  No diamond neck charm, pass her a Tarheel!  Could there possibly exist a better fan?

As your wedding photographer, my goal is to document YOUR wedding day, not to create in you a photographic fantasy of my own.  That is why I chose to use the expression “document your wedding day”.  In the truest sense of photojournalism, I’m there to tell the story through photography.  As a photojournalist, I don’t influence the story: modify it for the sake of dramatic imagery.  On your wedding day, it is all about your union before God and man.  I’m just grateful you’ve brought me in to tell the story.  But, if you ever desire a hint or two to help you if you ever feel uncomfortable, I’m there for you.  Trust me, I understand :)

Calvin & Kimberly recently selected a wedding portrait to display in their living room.  This image reflects what I’ve seen between them all along: Kimberly resting confident & comfortable with Calvin.  I’m going to start this display with that image.
