It’s one of those ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunities, but when it comes together for you it can be oh so good. Lucas Jamaal + Crystal exchanged wedding vows on November 11th, 2011. Their Raleigh Marriott Crabtree Valley wedding was a fulfillment of dreams and the beginning of their new life together. For me, it was the culmination of a great wedding client relationship. But just when I thought I wouldn’t see these two again, Crystal informed me that she couldn’t wait for her and Jamaal to have children just so that I could photograph them How could you not love these guys!
Readers of my blog should remember Jamaal + Crystal from their engagement session at Duke Gardens. If you haven’t seen their engagement photos then you may want to give them a look because they are fantastic. Crystal also opted for a bridal portrait session which was equally fantastic. If it sounds like the two photograph well, you’re right.
That brings us to their wedding at Raleigh Marriott Crabtree Valley. As usually is the case, we start their story with Crystal’s wedding day preparation. As you review their preview gallery, feel free to leave Jamaal + Crystal well wishes on their new life together as husband +wife.
Raleigh Marriott Crabtree Valley Wedding
Insights from the couple + Individual images
Insights from the groom: How did you meet?
We actually meet online on a dating site called Plentyoffish.com. Crystal sent me an initial message and I responded cautiously because she was so beautiful I thought she was spam…LOL
Insights from the bride: Tell us about the proposal …
I came home from my hair appointment to find candles lit at the entry way. To my immediate left was a ring box wrapped with a beautiful bow! YAY, this is it I thought! I was so excited I started sweating and jumping. I opened the box and it was empty except for a fortune cookie like piece of paper that had two lines. The first was a quote that read “She that can have patience, can have what she will”, followed by what looked to be a clue: WHERE DO YOU SLEEP?
Super excited and a little frustrated that my ring wasn’t in the first box I ran upstairs to the bedroom which was closed. The scavenger hunt began…oh, and patience definitely isn’t my virtue! I opened the door to find candles lit everywhere. I looked on the bed to find my favorite teddy bear, Belkie, with another box in his lap and a pink and white rose lying at his feet. I opened this box which appeared to be the actual ring box! Again empty, I was ready to hit Jamaal at this point, LOL, but saw another piece of paper that read: “All good things come to she who waits” followed by another clue: FIND A HAND AND YOUR SEARCH IS COMPLETE.
I turned around looking at Jamaal in confusion. Finally, he said, ‘where is your hand?’ I looked to my dresser where I have a porcelain hand that I made years ago and keep all my rings on. All of my rings were missing and on the ring finger was the ring of my dreams. I turned around and Jamaal was on his knee and asked, “Will you marry me?” Before he could get all the words out of his mouth I screamed, “Yes!” and he slipped the ring on my finger!
The ring is everything I hoped it would be. Most importantly, it is a physical symbol of the unconditional commitment that I have for Jamaal. It is a symbol of the love covenant between God, Jamaal, and Crystal. I couldn’t wait to say, “I DO!”
Insights from the bride: And your gown …
I had 2 gowns, I got married in my pink princess ballgown. I wanted to be bold and different. Everyone said I should be traditional, but I’m not a traditional kind of girl. SO I got married in my dream pink dress and changed into a white dress for the reception. I feel like I got the best of both worlds in my dresses for the evening. I got everything I ever wanted. Married on a date I have been obsessed with in a pink dress and to a man who is truly a prince =)
Insights from the bride: Tell us about your bridesmaids …
My bridesmaids were a culmination of my best friends from various parts of my life. I’m blessed to share my special day with such amazing women!
Insights from the bride: Tell us about your flowers …
Instead of regular flowers the bridesmaids had a wand wrapped around a calla lily flower!
Insights from the bride: What drew you to your ceremony venue?
The Raleigh Marriott Crabtree Valley was the only place that had 11-11-11 available and the staff was very professional. They did an amazing job!
Insights from the bride: What songs did you choose for your wedding ceremony and reception, and why?
We danced to Anthony Hamilton THE POINT OF IT ALL….which is really fitting because the point of it all is I LOVE YOU!
We chose Anthony Hamilton “Point of it All” as our official song of the wedding because we feel like life and love is very simplistic. And with the hustle and bustle of everyday life we sometimes can lose sight of that.
Insights from the bride: Was there any particular theme or style for your wedding?
The theme for the wedding was a Cinderella theme! I felt like I found my prince charming and I have always thought of myself as a princess and am in love with the color pink. Sometimes I wear tiaras and wave wands around the house, so this was only fitting!
Insights from the bride: Any wedding favors?
Our favors were pink slippers filled with candy and white horse and carriages filled with candy as well as keys that doubled as bottle openers. All 3 were pieces of the Cinderella theme!
Insights from the bride: How about your photography …
Dajuan you were the perfect choice, we can’t help for continuously stating that. Your professionalism, along with your creativity was so befitting to us and we were truly blessed that you were able to capture our day.
Insights from the bride: Tell us about your honeymoon …
Asheville cottages in Asheville NC. super romantic and economical, we recommend this to anyone. We stayed at the Aspen cottage. We decided if we get pregnant (one day) and have a girl we will name her Aspen Rayne =)
Insights from the bride: Would you share a memorable moment?
When the doors opened and I was holding my dads hand as we walked down the aisle. I saw everyone looking at me and the room looked AMAZING. The ambiance was enchanted and romantic. All I could see was Jamaal. It was an amazing moment to have my father beside me and hand me over to my future husband. Also when Jamaal asked for a copy of his vows and the minister initially thought she didn’t have them. I saw terror on Jamaal’s face, however it didn’t matter to me because in my heart I already knew how he felt. The vows were just for everyone else to hear. She eventually found a copy and Jamaal was relieved. lol.
