Engagement Photography at Duke Gardens: Tobias + Jennifer

I luv engagement sessions.  I do.  Usually they give me an opportunity work with a new couple for the first time.  I highly encourage my clients to have an engagement photography session for several reasons:

  1. It’s often the only professional photography of the couple before their wedding day and provides for images options for wedding day slide shows, save-the-date cards, photo guest books, thank you cards as well as that casual images of just the two of you enjoying being just the two of you!
  2. The second reason, I get to work with the couple in advance of their wedding day: learning each others personalities, getting to know how comfortable they are (become) in front of my lens, and by the end of the session taking those things they shared with me into their wedding day to better photograph who they are, together.
  3. Did I mention how much I enjoy being an engagement photographer?  I digress.

Due to scheduling, I often photograph two couples at the same location on the same day, one right after the other.  Yet, I make it a point for each session to be just as unique as the clients themselves.  Enter Tobias + Jennifer.  Now to be forthright, this wasn’t my first time  working with Jennifer, but her bridal images are under wraps until their wedding day, June 26th!  These two are an awesome couple: saved, intelligent, playful, and in love.  We had a great time at Duke Gardens despite the breaks for rain showers.

Duke Gardens Engagement Session: Aaron & Tiffany

So in love: this is Aaron and Tiffany.  When I received the call from Tiffany sharing the news that she is now engaged and looking for a Raleigh wedding photographer, I had a quick reflective moment.  See, I met Tiffany and her family shortly after I returned to Raleigh, NC in 2002.  Her dad serves as the Minister of Music at URCOGIC, the same church were I met my beautiful wife!  I have so many memories from fellowshipping there.  But it’s been a couple years since we moved to Providence Baptist Church, so hearing from Tiffany was almost like reuniting with family after many years.

Aaron and Tiffany agreed to meet me at Duke Gardens for their engagement session.  Neither had seen this venue prior to the session, but were very pleased with the beauty of this botanical garden.  I love it when clients are comfortable being themselves in front of my lens.  Tiffany was so complimentary after completing their session.  It’s so important to enjoy yourself during your session!  See their images to see why.

In His Image Photography is approved to photograph at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens and listed on their recommended photographers list.  If you’re interested in one of our sessions, or looking for a professional wedding photographer for this venue, contact our studio by clicking here, we’d love to hear from you.

Beach Front Engagement Session: Cameron + Jenille

It was January when Jenille and I started planning for her engagement session.  I was hoping to do some new things this year and we are definitely off to a great start.  Cameron and Jenille are having a waterfront wedding and wanted to follow that theme in their beach front engagement session.  I loved the idea, “Let’s go to the beach!”  We settled on Falls Lake in Durham NC, a place I had never been.  I like it already.  After the session, I asked Jenille to share how she  and Cameron met:

“We met while serving in ministry at the best church this side of Heaven:-), No Greater Love Christian Church in Durham, NC.  Cameron serves as the Minister of Music and teaches Men’s Bible Study, while I work as the Pastor’s Armor Bearer and head of the Women’s Ministry.  Though we had been worshiping together for over 7 years, our paths did not cross until I was planning Vacation Bible School one year and wanted to to play the game “Name that Tune.”  I needed Cameron’s help to pull it off.  When we met to organize the game we discovered that we had a lot in common and really hit it off.  About a week later the NGLCC Church Family went on a church trip to visit Lake Junaluska in Asheville, NC. It was on this trip that Cameron and I spent time really getting to know each other and began to fall in love.  And the rest as they say is history!”

I present a preview from Cameron and Jenille’s beach front engagement session at Falls Lake in Durham, NC.

Dajuan. This is Dorrian’s brother. I love this shoot man. Your lighting was superb. Nice job setting it up.

Dajuan, I love how you set up the lighting in the shoot. Shooting at night is something I definitely need to get more comfortable with. Great job

This is beautiful! You don’t see too many young couples reading the Scriptures these days–Isn’t this a lovely photo. Kudos to the photographer. Can’t wait to see more photos of this couple starting their life together and their faith leading the way.

Urban Bridal Portrait Session: Sharron Williams

Bridal sessions are one of my favorite types of portrait photography.  Whether photographed in studio or on location, bridal sessions have the potential to be very exciting & artistic.  Although I’ve trained for traditional portrait lighting & posing, I heart the fashion influence of today’s modern bridal sessions.  Adding fashion to the modern photo-jounalistic photography style is a natural offshoot of my style of wedding photography: portrait journalism.  Having a client who both wants this style of imagery and is comfortable having fun in front of my lens, provides for a winning combination as seen here with Sharron’s wedding bridal session.  Will & Sharron were recently highlighted here for their engagement session we held in Raleigh a few months ago.  Sharron enjoyed that session so much that she scrapped the original bridal session plans (they were nice too) and opted to continue the urban theme for her bridal session.

Will & Sharron are wedding this weekend.  I’m honored to have been chosen as their wedding photographer.  I rarely (insert ‘almost never’) post images from bridal sessions because they are usually held a month or two before the wedding day, and aren’t displayed until the wedding day.  This time, I’m delivering this post on their wedding day, just after the ceremony, as one of my gifts to the bride and groom.  I present to you, William’s bride, Sharron.

If this style of photography appeals to you, I’d like to hear from you.  Whether you’re looking for a wedding photographer in Raleigh, or marrying in St. Augustine, FL, we are able to provide you the detail, quality, and moments you’ll cherish in your wedding photographs for a lifetime.

The pictures are amazing. Very creative! The scenery was very non-traditional. I really loved the night shots and the pics with the floating rose petals. Sharron looks as if she had so much fun posing for the pictures. All I wonder is how did she keep the dress clean for the wedding day? LOL Job well done!
